Hemerocallis Dumortieri

dnaoodb: professional biology database , biology encyclopedia

in biology, Hemerocallis Dumortieri (Latin:Hemerocallis dumortieri C.Morren) is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Asphodelaceae , subfamily Hemerocallidoideae. Hemerocallis is a perennial herbaceous plant with underground stems, thick and fleshy roots, an enlarged upper part in the shape of a spindle, and linear leaves. The scape is obviously shorter than the leaves, often tilted, with or without branches. If there are no branches, the flowers are in clusters; The bracts are oblong-ovate or ovate-lanceolate, the upper part of the flower buds is reddish brown or green, the perianth is orange or golden, the perianth lobes are lanceolate, and the anthers are black. The capsule is nearly round and blooms from May to July.

Hemerocallis Dumortieri is distributed in China and Jilin; it is also distributed in North Korea, Russia, and Japan. Hemerocallis Dumortieri is a light-loving plant, extremely cold-tolerant, relatively tolerant of drought and poor soil, and likes cool and humid climate conditions.

The roots and rhizomes of Hemerocallis Dumortieri are used medicinally. It has the effects of clearing away heat and promoting dampness, cooling blood and stopping bleeding.

Description

Perennial herb with very short rhizome; the root is often somewhat fleshy, The underground stem is about 20 cm long, the root is thick and fleshy, the upper part is spindle-shaped and swollen, and the plant height is 25-50 cm. The leaves are linear, 46-56 cm long and 1.2-2.5 cm wide.

The scape is obviously shorter than the leaves, often tilted, with or without branches. If there are no branches, the flowers are nearly clustered; the bracts are oblong-ovate or ovate-lanceolate, about 2.7 cm long and 1.1 cm wide, and the pedicel is 2-4 mm long, the upper part of the bud is reddish brown or green, the perianth is 5-7 cm long, orange or golden yellow, and the perianth tube is about 1.8 cm long. The perianth lobes are lanceolate, 5-7 cm long and about 1.2 cm wide, with the inner 3 segments wider than the outer 3 segments. Anthers black. The capsule is nearly round, and the flowering period is from May to July.

Distribution

Distributed in China and Jilin; also distributed in North Korea, Russia, and Japan. Hemerocallis Dumortieri is a light-loving plant that is extremely cold-tolerant and relatively tolerant of drought and poor soil. It likes cool and humid climate conditions and grows in fertile and moist soil.

Reproduce

Propagation by division

This can usually be done in spring or autumn. Divide and plant once every 2-4 years. When dividing the plants, each cluster has 2-3 buds, and the plants are planted with a row spacing of 30 cm × 40 cm. The plants can be divided in spring and can bloom in summer; it is not suitable to divide the plants when they bloom in summer; they can be divided after the flowers fade in autumn, but it is better in late September or early October. Buds will sprout and grow in the following spring, and they will bloom and bear fruit.

seed propagation

Also known as sowing and propagation. Seed treatment: Seeds can be collected after the fruits mature in October every year. They are usually stored in bags or sand at low temperatures. Sowing: Sowing can be done in early spring of the second year, and the seeds will germinate quickly and neatly. They can be transplanted in the autumn and bloom in the second year.

Cultivation

When to choose: Spring or autumn.

Site selection: In a place with sufficient sunlight, moist and fertile soil, and high water table.

Digging the pit: It is best to dig the pit in advance. When planting, the pit should be dug as large as possible. The diameter of the pit should be 20-30 cm larger than the diameter of the root system to facilitate the expansion of the root system and the development of new roots. The topsoil and subsoil in the pit should be placed separately.

Planting: When planting, the roots should be stretched. Put the topsoil first and layer it firmly so that the roots and soil are closely combined. After planting, irrigate to keep the soil moist to ensure survival. The distance between plants for planting is 30-40 cm.

Fertilization: Fertilize three times a year, the first time in spring to promote plant growth; the second time in early summer to promote flower bud growth; and the third time after flowering to promote root growth and lay the foundation for the next year's growth.

Watering: Pay attention to watering frequently, depending on the moisture level of the soil. It should be kept moist during the growing period to facilitate plant growth. Pay attention to drainage during the rainy season.

Management: Frequent cultivating and weeding during the growth period, keeping the soil moist, and maintaining sufficient light in early spring is conducive to flower bud differentiation, flowering and fruiting. Generally, no special management is required for 3-5 years after colonization. However, because the roots move upward to the surface year by year, the soil should be cultivated and fertilized in the rhizosphere at the turn of autumn and winter every year to ensure good growth and flowering the next year.

Uses

Hemerocallis Dumortieri roots and rhizomes are used medicinally. It has the effects of clearing away heat and promoting dampness, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. It can be used to treat edema, difficulty urinating, bladder stones, hematuria, mumps, jaundice, insufficient milk, irregular menstruation, leucorrhea, and metrorrhagia.
